Lunch with General Lempke
Today, General Lempke, whom you can read more about here, flew in from Nebraska to visit our unit the 189th Transportation Company and the 67th Area Support Group (ASG). It was especially nice that the General was able to come down and meet with the troops since he could not make our Wayne/Norfolk send-off.
I walked out the door and boom General Lempke was right there in front of me, he knew who I was because his son is good friends with my cousin Joe. It was pretty neat standing there with the general talking about family back home and such. Along his side was my old commander from the 867th QM BN, Lieutenant Kernel Murphy and it was nice to see him as well.
By this time, troops were gathering around outside to get on the bus to go to the chow hall. While talking to the TAG (The Adjutant General) he handed me his coin, the two star coin as shown below. The other coin was given to me by SGM Shunk, the state Command Sergeant Major.
